Gym instructor Ripu Daman bags MasterChef India title, takes home Rs.1 crore
Delhi boy Ripu Daman Handa, a gym instructor by profession and a cook by passion, has won the third season of MasterChef India - Kitchen Ke Superstar.
The finale was aired on Friday night.
Ripu Daman, who has no past cooking experience or formal education in cooking, walked away with the prize money of Rs.1 crore and a contract to publish a cookery book. Extremely popular among the female audience, Ripu Daman got more votes than the two other finalists, Varanasi-based caterer Navneet Rastogi and Kolkata homemaker Doyel Sarangi.
The grand finale featured Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh, who also used the occasion to promote his upcoming film Lootera opposite Sonakshi Sinha.
"As a gym instructor, I would always promote healthy cooking to my clients and would suggest recipes. That elevated my interest in cooking. But winning a show was the last thing on my mind," said Ripu Daman, who has already started working on the cookbook that would be published by the channel shortly.
Coming from a middle-class family from north Delhi, Ripu Daman is undecided about how he would spend the money.
"All I know is that I will use the prize money to come up with an eating joint stressing on healthy eating," he said.

Why in the world would you let a culinary show - "master chef India" have the finalists being voted by the public to win? Even though it was for 50% of the decision.. why?? It's not like Indian idol or a d.I.d where you can measure their performance? Wherein you can see their dancing or hear their voice. You can't taste their food! You can only go by the opinion of the judges. If the public's given voting for things like these then there isn't much of a point having an expert panel in the first place. Stop commercializing everything! You guys made the chefs perform on Bollywood songs! That's ridiculous! Indian reality shows and their drama.. please increase your standards of television. #pathetic.

I was so excited today to be doing my first Indian curry in my new thermomix. I started at lunch time preparing the ingredients ( of which there are many), neading and proving the naan bread, making the raita, getting the rice ready, etc etc...a lot of love was going into the dish.....I had 20 mins until it was time to take the curry out of thermie...I thought I would have a quick shower before dinner. There were plenty of adults around to watch the kids...I could hear the big kids squealing with delight playing pickup sticks with pop....then I h ears a strange noi we...it almost sounded like my thermie...but no..I knew it was slowly cooking the curry...I ran out to see Mia on a a hair I front of the thermie and had it cranked up to speed 10! My labor of love was now soup....
